Today started off amazing. The kids allowed my husband and I to sleep in for a change which just blew us away when we realized the time when our daughter came in our room to wake us up. I was feeling much better after a full nights rest and couldn’t wait to start the day. I came down to my craft room after making breakfast and first thing I started reorganizing and getting things put away, all together cleaning up.
You can do a lot when your craft room is clean that’s for sure! I’m going to post a picture and I want you to try and guess exactly where my creative little mind was taking me
Well there is Sweet Treat Cups there, a circle punch, Christmas paper…hmmm
If you guessed Advent Calendar your right! I’ve been telling my downline Jenny for quite some time that I’ve been itching to make a Advent Calendar. Well during my cleaning session I was seeing how many Sweet Treat Cups I had and what I could make with them besides what has already been done. One thing lead to another and some how my Advent calendar was born!
To make this I used a 16″ x 20″ canvas. Why I chose a canvas is it’s sturdier then say poster board or anything else that I could think of while I was at the local craft store today. It worked beautifully and once I’m done with this Advent calendar I can easily remove everything and find another use for it.
I cut 24 pieces of 3″ Black card stock as well as 24 pieces of Holiday Lounge DSP at 2 3/4″. I punched out the middle of each DSP using the 1 3/4 inch punch leaving enough room for the sweet treat cup to go in the middle.
I found out that I was out of chocolate, which is a rarity in my house, and was forced to used Tootsie Rolls instead. It worked equally as well but we all know chocolate is better
After filling the cups full of Tootsie Rolls I put the DSP around the sweet treat cup, applied adhesive to the DSP and stuck it to the Basic Black card stock. After that was complete I cut a X in the back of each Black square to make easy access to the Tootsie rolls.
Next came taking 4 dots of Velcro and placing one on each corner of the basic black card stock along with placing 4 more on the canvas itself. After attaching the squares to the canvas I pulled them on and off a couple of times so that it was easier each time I pull one off to show someone or snatch some candy myself
Once I finished all of the velcro the next step was to decorate the outside of the sweet treat cups. I did that by using the Scallop Circle Punch along with more Holiday Lounge DSP and Stampin’ Ups Timeless Type Alphabet for the Big Shot. It took quite some time to get everything punched and cut out but I think it was well worth it. After attaching all of the numbers correctly to the punched Scallop Circles I attached them to the sweet treat cups.
Finally came coming up with a title. Using Stampin’ Ups Alphabet simple letters I cut out the title ” Days Til Christmas” which luckily fit perfectly in the title space I left. I cut 2 pieces of Christmas Cocoa Specialty DSP from the new Holiday Mini at 2 1/2″ x 12″ which gave me the background for my title. After apply adhesive to the back of that and attaching it to the canvas I did the same for the title.
Last but not least I needed to attach some ribbon to hang it from. Using Real Red 5/8″ Grosgrain ribbon I cut two pieces at 19″ each. I attached sticky strip to 11″ of the ribbon and attached that 11″ to the back of the canvas. The remaining 8″ I folded in half to make the ribbon nice and thick for piercing a tack through. Although for some reason I couldn’t find any tacks in my house so I had to use picture nails at the moment…shhh!
It’s that simple! It’s a good use for the sweet treat cups. All it takes is two boxes of them along with some DSP and your good to go! I hope you enjoyed this project as much as I enjoyed making it. I’d love to hear your feedback
